About the Role

St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is a 64-bed faith-based medical facility dedicated to fostering and practicing Catholic medical ethics alongside evidence-based medicine. We are currently seeking an experienced, highly competent, and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team as the Head of Department (HOD) for the General Ward. In this vital leadership role, you will oversee the daily clinical and administrative operations of the ward, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, patient-centered nursing care while mentoring and supervising our dedicated nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strong clinical and administrative leadership for the General Ward operations.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the performance of nurses and nurse assistants.
  • Prepare and monitor departmental duty rosters to ensure adequate 24/7 staffing coverage.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate nursing care to all patients.
  • Monitor patient conditions closely and ensure timely escalation of emergencies to medical personnel.
  • Enforce strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and ensure accurate documentation of all nursing activities.
  • Identify staff training needs and promote continuous professional development.
  • Manage ward equipment, supplies, and report-writing requirements efficiently.
  • Enforce professionalism, discipline, ethical practices, and confidentiality.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.).
  • Additional qualification in Public Health is mandatory.
  • Valid and current Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) practising licence.
  • 9 to 20 years of post-qualification nursing experience in a General or Medical/Surgical Ward.
  • Demonstrated previous supervisory or HOD experience in a reputable healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional leadership, clinical assessment, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
