About the Role
Proten International is seeking a skilled and dedicated Hatchery & Nursery Manager to join our client's agricultural operations in Nigeria. In this vital role, you will oversee all aspects of fish breeding, egg incubation, pre-nursery rearing, packing, and dispatch operations. Your expertise will ensure the consistent production of healthy, high-quality fish seed while maintaining strict biosecurity, production standards, and overall operational efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Manage daily hatchery and nursery operations and production schedules to meet targets.
- Coordinate broodstock selection, spawning, egg incubation, and hatching processes.
- Oversee larval and fry rearing, feeding regimens, grading, stocking, and water quality management.
- Monitor fish health, survival rates, growth, hatchability, and overall seed quality.
- Ensure effective biosecurity, hygiene, safety protocols, and batch traceability.
- Coordinate packing, oxygenation, and timely dispatch of fish seed to customers and farms.
- Supervise, train, and develop the hatchery and nursery operational teams.
- Maintain accurate production, inventory, and equipment records while preparing regular performance reports.
- Drive continuous improvements in production efficiency, survival rates, and resource utilization.
- Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience managing fish hatchery and nursery operations.
- Hands-on expertise in breeding, incubation, larval rearing, fry management, packing, and dispatch.
- Demonstrated experience with catfish or other warm-water fish production is strongly preferred.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of leading production teams and maintaining operational records.
