About the Role
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is recruiting a Governance Coordinator to support protected area management structures, facilitate multi-stakeholder platforms, and advance community-led conservation governance. The successful candidate will ensure governance systems remain inclusive, transparent, and aligned with WCS's mission to conserve the world's largest wild places and protect over 50% of global biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and operationalize management committees and governance platforms for protected areas with inclusive stakeholder representation
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues involving government agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and civil society organizations
- Strengthen accountability and transparency mechanisms within conservation governance systems
- Provide training and mentorship on governance, conflict resolution, and natural resource management to committee members and community representatives
- Monitor, document, and report on governance processes, decisions, and outcomes for donor reporting and organizational learning
- Promote collaborative decision-making and support alignment of conservation priorities with local, state, and national policies
- Master's degree in governance, public policy, environmental management, or related field (or bachelor's with significant relevant experience)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in governance, institutional strengthening, and stakeholder engagement in conservation or natural resource management
- Proven experience facilitating multi-stakeholder platforms and conflict mediation
- Strong understanding of community-based governance and participatory approaches
- Experience working in Nigeria with knowledge of local governance systems
- Fluency in English and Hausa; willingness to travel regularly to field sites
