About the Role
Dangote Group, Africa's leading industrial conglomerate, is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Gas Cutter to join our dynamic maintenance team in Nigeria. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our heavy industrial manufacturing plants by performing precision cutting, dismantling, modification, and preparation of metal materials, pipelines, and structural components. You will collaborate closely with mechanical and fabrication teams to ensure plant efficiency, safety compliance, and operational excellence during routine maintenance, shutdowns, and turnaround projects.
Key Responsibilities- Execute oxy-acetylene and oxy-fuel cutting activities on pipes, plates, structural steel, and metal components according to technical specifications.
- Prepare metal materials, cut edges, and bevels to support welding, fabrication, maintenance, and repair operations.
- Dismantle damaged equipment, pipelines, and obsolete structural assemblies during plant repairs and replacement projects.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication sketches, and measurements to guarantee dimensional compliance and cutting accuracy.
- Inspect completed cutting tasks for smooth finishes, precision, and adherence to quality standards.
- Maintain gas cutting equipment, hoses, regulators, cylinders, and torches in optimal working condition while practicing proper tool storage.
- Adhere strictly to Permit-to-Work systems, Lockout/Tagout procedures, Hot Work Permits, and all Health, Safety, and Environment regulations.
- National Diploma (ND) in Mechanical Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, or a related technical discipline; OR Trade Test Grade I, II, and III in relevant trades.
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on industrial experience in gas cutting, fabrication, or plant maintenance within manufacturing, cement, power, or heavy industries.
- Proficiency in oxy-fuel cutting techniques, pipe cutting, structural steel preparation, and the safe handling of compressed gas cylinders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industrial safety standards, hot work requirements, and the ability to interpret engineering blueprints.
- Professional certifications in hot work safety, occupational health and safety, or industrial gas cutting are a distinct advantage.
