About the Role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Field Worker III to join our dynamic research team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting agricultural research, field trials, and laboratory operations focused on cassava improvement and postharvest physiological deterioration. Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in cassava field establishment, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest activities under the PPD project.
  • Support the collection of agronomic, phenotypic, and PPD-related data from field trials and breeding populations.
  • Assist in the digital capture, annotation, and quality control of cassava root images, alongside organizing and validating research data using digital tools.
  • Support routine laboratory and tissue culture operations, including media preparation, sterilization, sample handling, and acclimatization of plant materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and proper organization of laboratory workspaces, screen houses, and field equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of an SSCE / O'Level qualification with at least two years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, fieldwork, data collection, or research activities.
  • Previous experience working with agricultural or research-related projects will be a distinct advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of data collection and management, coupled with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse environments, including laboratories, screen houses, and open fields.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
