About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research-for-development organization dedicated to reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty in Africa. We are currently looking for a proactive Facilities Supervisor to join our dedicated team and oversee the maintenance and construction of screen houses and glasshouses to support our vital agricultural research.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out general maintenance and daily inspections of screen houses and glasshouses to ensure compliance with research requirements.
- Supervise staff, technicians, and casual workers engaged in facility maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure construction.
- Conduct structural repairs, including the replacement of roofing glass, nets, and frames, while overseeing cleaning and fumigation processes.
- Manage the requisition, collection, and proper utilization of construction materials to ensure accountability.
- Maintain accurate daily operational reports and support cost-recovery planning by tracking labor and material expenses.
- Ensure strict compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) standards across all projects.
- Possession of an HND or B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in facility maintenance, construction, or agricultural infrastructure management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety standards, HS&E certifications, and controlled environment agriculture.
- Proficiency in reading construction drawings, utilizing MS Office, and managing facility software or vendor relations.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and communication skills in English.
