About the Role
FairMoney is a leading digital platform in Nigeria providing instant loans and financial services through our Android application. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager (RCL) to lead a talented team of software engineers responsible for building and scaling reliable technology solutions for our core lending and credit products. In this role, you will combine strong technical expertise with people leadership, collaborating closely with Product, Data, and Risk teams to translate business needs into robust, scalable technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.
- Own the technical direction, architecture, and end-to-end delivery of systems supporting our lending and credit products.
- Drive the design and development of scalable backend services, distributed systems, and AI-native applications.
- Establish rigorous engineering standards regarding code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and system reliability.
- Write hands-on code, design new systems, and lead by example while effectively addressing technical debt and performance bottlenecks.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Risk, and Data stakeholders to prioritize delivery and align technical goals with business growth.
- Support incident management, conduct thorough root-cause analyses, and drive continuous improvement in operational performance.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development and distributed systems.
- 2+ years of experience in a formal leadership, management, or technical lead capacity.
- Proven hands-on coding capability, with the expectation to design, code, and lead technical projects from conception to production.
- Demonstrated experience working within fintech, lending, payments, or related high-volume transactional domains.
- Strong command of relational database design, query optimization, microservices architecture, and asynchronous event-driven systems.
- Familiarity with AI-native development practices and modern cloud infrastructure.
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to manage stakeholders across both technical and non-technical functions.
