About the Role
MTN Nigeria, part of Africa's leading cellular telecommunications company, is seeking a skilled Radio Access Performance Engineer to join our Network Performance Optimization (NPO) team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and optimizing our multi-vendor Radio Access Network infrastructure to ensure superior service quality and customer experience across Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and evaluate Radio Access Network (RAN) performance across multiple vendors to maintain KPI stability and ensure optimal end-user experience
- Perform advanced RAN troubleshooting and root cause analysis using KPIs, drive test results, and feature correlation
- Detect network degradations and coordinate escalation and resolution with Managed Services Vendors, Operations teams, and Field teams within agreed SLAs
- Recommend, implement, and validate parameter and feature optimization actions for enhanced network performance
- Support pre- and post-change performance validation for network upgrades, site integrations, and feature activations
- Generate comprehensive RAN statistical analyses, dashboards, and performance reports highlighting trends and actionable improvements
- Conduct radio audits, benchmarking exercises, and performance assessments including regulatory validation support
- Identify capacity and coverage issues, including congestion hotspots, and provide inputs to Planning teams
- Contribute to the development of NPO processes, tools, and best practice playbooks
- First degree in Electrical Electronics or Computer Science
- 3-7 years of professional experience in telecommunications
- Minimum 3 years specialized experience with 2G/3G/4G/5G radio access networks in a telecom vendor or wireless operator environment
- Experience working in medium to large organizations
- Fluent in English language
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience with OSS tools, performance dashboards, and network optimization platforms
