About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research partner in finding solutions for hunger, malnutrition, and poverty across tropical countries. We are currently seeking a dependable and experienced Driver to join our team in Plateau State. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of our project staff, consultants, partners, and essential materials to support our impactful agricultural research and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors in support of daily project activities.
- Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies securely to field locations and other designated destinations.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer recommendations.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, maintenance records, and trip documentation.
- Observe all traffic regulations, maintain safe driving practices, and exercise sound judgment at all times.
- Support logistical arrangements for trainings, workshops, field visits, and stakeholder meetings.
- Assist with loading and unloading project materials and ensure the security of passengers and equipment.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional training in vehicle maintenance is a strong advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence appropriate to the vehicle class and a clean driving record are strictly required.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, government agency, or corporate organization.
- Excellent knowledge of roads and routes within Plateau State, including rural and remote areas.
- Strong commitment to road safety, high level of integrity, and professional conduct.
- Physical fitness with the ability to travel frequently to remote locations.
