About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a professional, safety-conscious Driver to join our team in Abuja. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our agricultural research and development initiatives by providing reliable transport for project staff, consultants, and essential materials. You will work within a dynamic nonprofit environment dedicated to reducing hunger, poverty, and malnutrition across Africa.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors across designated locations.
- Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies securely to field locations and other destinations.
- Ensure assigned vehicles are kept clean, roadworthy, and maintained according to IITA policies and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, and trip documentation.
- Observe all traffic regulations and demonstrate safe driving practices at all times.
- Assist with loading and unloading project materials and support logistical arrangements for workshops and field visits.
- Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional training in basic vehicle maintenance is an advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle class and a clean driving record.
- At least 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, international organization, or corporate body.
- Excellent knowledge of roads and routes within Abuja and surrounding rural areas.
- Strong interpersonal skills, high integrity, and physical fitness to travel to remote locations.
