About the Role
ZOA International is an international relief and recovery organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable people affected by violent conflicts and natural disasters in fragile states. Operating in over 15 countries worldwide, our field staff provide direct assistance to displaced populations and communities facing severe socioeconomic and environmental hardships. We are currently seeking a motivated Disaster Preparedness Officer for Livelihood Support to join our team on-site in Nigeria, playing a vital role in integrating disaster risk reduction into community livelihood programs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive field assessments and map community risks and vulnerabilities to inform proactive programming.
- Design and implement livelihood activities that empower vulnerable households to better withstand external shocks and stresses.
- Coordinate closely with local community groups, authorities, and partner organizations to plan and deliver targeted training sessions and awareness campaigns.
- Facilitate disaster preparedness simulations and promote safe, sustainable livelihood practices across project locations.
- Monitor ongoing project activities, collect and analyze field data, and prepare accurate, timely reports for management and donors.
- Ensure all project interventions strictly adhere to ZOA organizational standards, humanitarian principles, donor requirements, and safeguarding policies.
- Collaborate with program and MEAL staff to review project learnings, gather feedback, and adapt activities for maximum impact.
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, disaster management, agriculture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, or humanitarian response, preferably within livelihood programming.
- Strong practical skills in field assessment, data collection, basic analysis, and technical reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to engage diverse community members, facilitate participatory workshops, and deliver effective training.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships and meet tight deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in local Nigerian languages considered a strong advantage.
- High cultural sensitivity and proven ability to work effectively on-site in rural or crisis-affected environments.
- Familiarity with humanitarian safeguarding protocols, security guidelines, and compliance standards for donor-funded projects.
