About the Role
Nigerdock, West Africa's leading industrial corporation focused on oil and gas construction and marine services, is seeking a dedicated Deckhand / Onboard Mechanic for our operations based at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone in Lagos. In this vital role, you will combine deckhand duties with mechanical upkeep, ensuring that our vessels operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with the highest maritime standards.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the captain in safe vessel operations and navigation support.
- Enforce strict safety protocols, including the mandatory use of life jackets and adherence to HSE guidelines.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers onboard at all times.
- Coordinate and execute the safe loading, stowing, and offloading of cargo.
- Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance tasks, including greasing, cleaning, and servicing machinery.
- Monitor marine engine performance closely and report any mechanical abnormalities immediately.
- Minimum of a secondary school certificate.
- Valid STCW and MEA certificates are strictly required.
- 1 to 3 years of demonstrable experience in marine operations.
- Proven mechanical skills in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining marine engines.
- Basic first aid and fire safety training will be a distinct advantage.
- Physically fit with the stamina to handle demanding manual tasks in a coastal environment.
