About the Role
Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), a leading African corporate and investment bank, is looking to appoint a dynamic Senior Transactor within our Debt Financing Solutions (DFS) division in Lagos, Nigeria. As part of the FirstRand Group, we deliver innovative advisory, funding, and corporate banking solutions across the continent. We are seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter with the passion and energy to expand our investment banking business by providing bespoke corporate term lending and Debt Capital Markets (DCM) solutions to top-tier clients across West Africa, including Nigeria and Ghana.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the origination, structuring, and execution of bespoke term lending solutions, collaborating closely with in-country coverage and international product teams.
- Develop and nurture strategic relationships with Sovereigns, State-Owned Enterprises, Supranational, Financial Institutions, and large local corporates.
- Navigate credit rating advisories and bond listing requirements to facilitate successful debt issuances in Nigeria and Ghana.
- Manage complex, multi-jurisdiction documentation while ensuring strict compliance with local and international laws and regulations.
- Obtain internal credit approvals and lead negotiations to successfully close transactions.
- Enhance transaction bankability by identifying, assessing, and mitigating key credit risks.
- Mentor and coach junior transactors while driving cross-selling initiatives across RMB product lines.
- Minimum of 5 years of corporate and structured finance deal-making experience, with prior transaction experience in Nigeria highly advantageous.
- Relevant Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field; professional qualifications such as ACCA, CFA, or an MBA are strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of credit analysis, debt structuring, financial instruments, and contract law.
- Working knowledge of corporate tax, law, and accounting principles.
- Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel extensively within West Africa, South Africa, and internationally as required.
