About the Role

Moniepoint is a leading financial technology company digitising Africa’s real economy by building a comprehensive financial ecosystem for businesses. We are currently seeking a strategic and experienced Data Privacy & Protection Director to join our Compliance department, reporting directly to the Chief Compliance Officer. In this executive leadership role, you will oversee our entire data protection strategy, ensuring full compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and other relevant regulatory frameworks to safeguard personal data and maintain our reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As our Data Privacy & Protection Director, you will spearhead multiple critical data governance initiatives across the organization:

  • Implement a robust data privacy governance framework, including Binding Corporate Rules, to manage data use in alignment with the NDPA 2023.
  • Set organizational standards, formulate policies, and establish procedures to meet evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the Nigeria Data Privacy Commission (NDPC), financial institutions, customers, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Collaborate with product and project managers to conduct thorough Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) prior to new system deployments.
  • Partner with information security and IT teams to maintain accurate records of processing activities and execute effective data breach response plans.
  • Design and deliver targeted data privacy training programs for employees, third-party processors, and vendors.
  • Coordinate internal privacy audits and work closely with Data Privacy Compliance Organizations (DPCOs) for external regulatory reviews.
Qualifications

To thrive in this critical leadership role, you must bring a robust background in data protection, legal compliance, and strategic management:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration; a Master’s degree is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on compliance and data protection experience, with deep operational mastery of the NDPA 2023.
  • Recognized professional certifications such as CIPM, CIPP, CISSP, CPT, CDPSE, or CDPO.
  • Demonstrated success in managing data breach responses, leading DPIAs, and directing regulatory relationships.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, uncompromising ethical integrity, and stellar cross-functional leadership capabilities.
