About the Role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital offering comprehensive diagnostics and treatment in oncology, cardiovascular, and haematological care. Developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare and advancing medical education across Africa. We are currently looking for an expert Cyclotron Radiochemist to drive our radiopharmaceutical operations, support PET imaging, and ensure the reliable production of high-purity radiotracers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine synthesis, purification, and quality control of PET radiotracers using automated synthesis modules.
  • Develop and optimize new radiochemistry methods for novel radiotracers to support clinical and research initiatives.
  • Conduct comprehensive QC testing including analyses for radiochemical purity, chemical purity, pH, identity, and sterility.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation for all production and QC batches in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles.
  • Enforce strict radiation safety protocols for the handling, processing, and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Collaborate closely with cyclotron physicists, nuclear medicine physicians, and radiologists to ensure seamless clinical workflows.
  • Train and mentor junior radiochemists and laboratory technologists on advanced synthesis and safety practices.
Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD degree in Chemistry, Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a GMP-compliant radiopharmaceutical production environment, specifically with PET radiotracers.
  • In-depth knowledge of organic chemistry, radiochemistry principles, and analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and TLC.
  • Formal training or certification in GMP and radiopharmacy is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record in method development, process optimization, and managing quality control laboratories.
  • Exceptional commitment to radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and patient care standards.
