About the Role

The American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Coordinator, Choral and Creative Performance to lead its vibrant arts programmes. As Africa's first Development University, AUN offers an American-style education emphasizing holistic student development, creativity, and community engagement. In this role, you will direct the AUN Choir and manage live-performance initiatives including spoken-word, poetry, and dramatic readings, fostering a disciplined, inclusive, and high-performing artistic culture that enhances campus life and university visibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, audition, train, and retain a diverse, high-performing student choir and manage regular rehearsals and vocal coaching sessions.
  • Select and prepare a versatile musical repertoire spanning sacred, secular, contemporary, classical, Nigerian, African, and international styles.
  • Coordinate choir and creative performances for major university ceremonies, including Convocation, Founder’s Day, and Commencement.
  • Mentor students in spoken-word, poetry, dramatic readings, and storytelling, organizing workshops and showcases to build stage presence and confidence.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to manage performance logistics, technical requirements, venues, and event scheduling.
  • Maintain organized repositories of musical scores, scripts, recordings, and programme materials with strict adherence to copyright standards.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, English/Literature, Creative Arts, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in choir direction, music instruction, performing arts, theatre, or creative arts programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in directing vocal ensembles, theatre groups, or multidisciplinary creative-performance initiatives within an educational environment.
  • Strong artistic vision, sound musical and theatrical direction capabilities, and exceptional student mentorship skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management abilities with a commitment to inclusivity and excellence.
