About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are dedicated to providing exceptional, evidence-based care in oncology, cardiovascular, haematological care, and general medical services. We are currently seeking a dynamic and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to spearhead our comprehensive mental health services, ensuring holistic, patient-centered care for patients presenting with acute and complex conditions across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, formulate accurate diagnoses, and deliver evidence-based treatment plans for diverse mental health conditions.
- Provide expert consultation-liaison psychiatry services to oncology, cardiovascular, surgical, and critical-care multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage psychiatric emergencies, including acute psychosis, severe behavioral disturbances, and suicide risks, with adherence to safety standards.
- Lead clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and the development of robust mental health pathways.
- Supervise, mentor, and teach resident doctors, medical officers, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals within a research-driven environment.
- Minimum of 7 years of post-fellowship experience in specialist psychiatric clinical practice.
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship in Psychiatry from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Physicians, Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent.
- Valid registration and practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Demonstrated expertise in managing medically co-morbid mental health conditions within tertiary healthcare settings.
