About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our 500-bed specialty hospital. Developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, AMCE Abuja offers world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment across oncology, cardiovascular, haematological, and general medical services. In this vital role, you will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for patients presenting with acute and complex mental health conditions, ensuring safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and liaison settings.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental state examinations, risk assessments, formulations, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
- Manage a broad range of mental health conditions, including mood, anxiety, psychotic, trauma-related, substance-use, and medically associated disorders.
- Lead multidisciplinary case reviews, working closely with physicians, surgeons, nurses, psychologists, and allied health professionals.
- Provide specialist psychiatric advice to AMCE's oncology, cardiovascular, haematology, and critical-care clinical teams.
- Develop and implement clinical pathways, protocols, and escalation arrangements for mental health care across the hospital.
- Lead clinical audits, incident reviews, morbidity and mortality discussions, and quality improvement initiatives related to mental health care.
- Teach, supervise, and mentor residents, medical officers, students, and nurses while participating in relevant clinical research.
- Minimum of 7 years of post-fellowship experience in specialist psychiatric practice.
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- Fellowship in Psychiatry from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Physicians, Royal College of Psychiatrists, or an equivalent recognised specialist qualification.
- Full registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and a valid practising licence.
- Demonstrated competence in managing acute, complex, and medically co-morbid mental health conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and developing clinical pathways in a tertiary healthcare environment.
