About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a dedicated Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to lead our orthopaedic services, delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries while advancing clinical research and education in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Lead inpatient ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and emergency trauma management for elective and acute orthopaedic cases.
- Perform a wide range of complex orthopaedic procedures independently, including joint arthroplasty, fracture fixation, and arthroscopy, adhering strictly to WHO safety protocols.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physiotherapists, nurses, and allied health professionals, to ensure holistic patient recovery.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and infection control compliance within the department.
- Provide structured mentorship, clinical supervision, and formal training for resident doctors, medical officers, and students.
- Contribute actively to clinical research protocols, publications, and continuous medical education programs.
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Surgeons, or an internationally recognized equivalent.
- Full registration and a valid practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship clinical experience in Orthopaedic Surgery with a strong surgical portfolio.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing complex orthopaedic emergencies such as open fractures, septic joints, and compartment syndrome.
