About the Role

The Green Environment and Climate Change Initiative (GRENCHI) is a registered non-governmental environmental conservation organization dedicated to fighting climate change and protecting nature across Nigeria. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Engagement and Advocacy Officer to serve as our primary link to local communities, schools, farmer groups, government bodies, and traditional leadership structures. This vital people-facing role involves building trust, mobilizing stakeholders, gathering community insights, and championing sustainable policy initiatives at the grassroots and state levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with GRENCHI partners, including traditional leaders, CSOs, and government officials.
  • Organize community turnout for tree-planting exercises, training workshops, and key environmental governance events.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and serve as the primary point of contact for community inquiries and feedback.
  • Coordinate with sub-national ministries and local government institutions to secure buy-in and ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Conduct community-level surveys, needs assessments, and satisfaction check-ins while maintaining accurate engagement records.
  • Collaborate closely with Field Operations and Communications teams during field activities and monitoring exercises.
  • Ensure all grassroots advocacy efforts strictly align with GRENCHI's overall strategic objectives and organizational priorities.
Qualifications
  • BSc or MSc degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Public Administration, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of hands-on professional experience in community mobilization, outreach, or field extension work.
  • Required fluency in both English and Igbo to effectively communicate with diverse local audiences.
  • Working understanding of Nigeria's environmental and climate policy landscape, with specific knowledge of local government structures in Anambra State.
  • Demonstrated excellence in facilitation, public speaking, interpersonal relations, and report writing.
