About the Role
Jaza Energy, the leading last-mile energy company building solar charging stations and renting batteries in off-grid communities, is looking for a dedicated Commissioning Technician to join our growing technical operations team in Oyo, Nigeria. In this vital role, you will own the technical operations for our expansion process into new sites, ensuring that all solar technical equipment is installed and commissioned to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare comprehensive pre-departure checklists of required tools, items, and technical equipment for allocated site commissioning.
- Commission and install solar technical equipment while strictly adhering to established company guidelines and documentation.
- Ensure the proper setup of new sites in the Star App, Dashboard, and Dataverse prior to handover to the regional tech team.
- Accurately file, update, respond to, and escalate technical issues using Gitlab.
- Perform remote and on-site troubleshooting to resolve hub performance issues during the pre-go-live and expansion phases.
- Verify the availability and optimal charge rate of Jaza packs to guarantee a seamless go-live experience.
- Maintain 100% network and system connectivity across all newly established sites.
- Manage and keep accurate inventory records of hub and shop equipment during the commissioning phase.
- Test new products and firmware updates as required by operational needs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with regional technicians, supply chain, and construction teams for smooth project integration.
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of hands-on technical experience in the renewable energy, solar, or telecommunications sector.
- Demonstrated expertise in installing and maintaining energy systems, including both diesel and solar setups.
- Strong working knowledge of PV system design, installation, and general electrical installations.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a strict commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
- Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and digital communication tools.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to new technologies, and travel frequently to remote community locations.
