About the Role
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is recruiting a Biomonitoring Coordinator to join our conservation team in Calabar, Cross River State. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to global biodiversity protection efforts across 15 priority regions home to over 50% of the world's wildlife. You will design and implement comprehensive ecological and socio-economic monitoring systems, leveraging cutting-edge tools and methodologies to drive conservation impact.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement ecological and socio-economic monitoring systems in collaboration with the Conservation Impact Manager
- Lead ecological data collection using SMART/EarthRanger, camera traps, bioacoustics, remote sensing/GIS, and KoboToolbox
- Manage data quality control, storage, and analysis; produce scientific reports and donor-compliant outputs
- Supervise field teams to ensure effective implementation of monitoring protocols and surveys
- Conduct biomonitoring capacity-building training for staff and rangers on ecological tools and techniques
- Collaborate with site coordinators and partner organisations to harmonise monitoring approaches
- Provide evidence-based recommendations for conservation decision-making and threat assessments
- Contribute to scientific publications and stakeholder workshops to disseminate findings
- Support integration of ecological monitoring with community engagement initiatives
- Master's degree in ecology, conservation biology, natural resource management, or related field (PhD advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years' progressive experience in biodiversity monitoring or conservation programmes
- Demonstrated experience with protected area management, preferably in Nigeria
- Proven expertise with SMART/EarthRanger, GIS, remote sensing, and field survey techniques
- Experience in project management, team supervision, and donor reporting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Willingness to undertake regular field travel within Nigeria
