About the Role

FHI 360, a nonprofit human development organization, is recruiting an Assistant Technical Officer specializing in Nursing/Midwifery. You will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing and midwifery care to vulnerable populations, working within a multidisciplinary team committed to improving health outcomes and advancing integrated, locally-driven solutions across healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care, treatment, and patient follow-up in accordance with medical prescriptions, established protocols, and universal hygiene standards
  • Provide specialized midwifery support throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal periods, including antenatal and postnatal education
  • Conduct patient triage, identify acute/emergency cases, and provide appropriate first aid interventions
  • Assist with clinical procedures, medical rounds, consultations, and patient assessments
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including files, forms, and health documentation
  • Ensure infection prevention and control measures are consistently implemented
  • Collaborate with Community Health Extension Workers and healthcare volunteers for capacity building
  • Participate in health education, outreach programs, and community health initiatives
  • Prepare periodic reports and collect baseline data in coordination with M&E teams
  • Maintain and sterilize medical equipment appropriately

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Midwifery with 1-3 years post-NYSC relevant experience
  • Valid practicing license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife (mandatory)
  • Public health certificate or related qualification from a government-recognized institution (advantageous)
  • Fluency in English and local languages (Hausa, Kanuri, Fula, or others spoken in Northeast Nigeria)
  • Willingness to rotate across Borno State LGAs and work in challenging environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous humanitarian crisis experience (highly desirable)
