The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is currently seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Lecturer to join the Department of Pharmacognosy within the Faculty of Pharmacy. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an early-career academic to shape the next generation of pharmacy professionals while advancing their own research portfolio in medicinal plants and natural products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging undergraduate lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions in Pharmacognosy and related pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Conduct high-impact research in natural product chemistry, phytochemistry, or pharmacognosy and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervise undergraduate student research projects and provide meaningful academic advising and mentorship.
  • Participate actively in departmental, faculty, and university-wide committee meetings and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Faculty of Pharmacy on curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a First Degree in Pharmacy or a relevant discipline with a minimum of a Second Class Upper Division, or a Second Class Lower Division accompanied by a completed PhD.
  • Must hold a Master degree in Pharmacognosy or a closely related field, with a PhD currently in progress.
  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching potential, pedagogical competence, and active research capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) will be an added advantage.
