About the Role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a dedicated Advocacy and Community Liaison Officer to support the design and implementation of advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and community liaison strategies in Nigeria. In this role, you will serve as a critical link between the IRC, local communities, government stakeholders, and humanitarian partners to ensure effective coordination, representation, and community-centered programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of advocacy and community engagement strategies aligned with country program priorities.
  • Facilitate effective engagement with government ministries, community leaders, civil society organizations, and humanitarian actors.
  • Contribute to the documentation of humanitarian needs, community concerns, and program impact to inform advocacy messaging.
  • Ensure community feedback and accountability mechanisms are strengthened and functional across program locations.
  • Support proposal development through context analysis, stakeholder mapping, and advocacy-related inputs.
  • Represent the IRC in relevant coordination meetings, UN agency platforms, and external stakeholder forums.
  • Strengthen the capacity of staff and community structures on advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and accountability approaches.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Mass Communication, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Law, or a related field; a Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in advocacy, community engagement, stakeholder coordination, or humanitarian programming.
  • Demonstrated experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or government institutions within the Nigerian humanitarian context.
  • Strong understanding of Northeast or Northwest Nigeria operating environments is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills with proven ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
