About the Role
The American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, is seeking a dedicated Administrative and Tutoring Assistant to join our dynamic Writing Center. In this entry-level position, you will play a crucial role in providing essential administrative support and expert writing tutoring, helping students develop core competencies in a vibrant, American-style liberal arts university environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality tutoring support across academic disciplines, diagnosing writing needs in grammar, mechanics, and structure.
- Guide students through all stages of the writing process, from brainstorming to final revisions.
- Conduct workshops and presentations on effective writing techniques and academic integrity.
- Serve as the primary administrative contact for the Writing Center, managing appointments and maintaining accurate databases.
- Take accurate meeting minutes, draft administrative reports, and coordinate center events.
- Manage office supply inventories and ensure a welcoming, orderly environment while maintaining strict data confidentiality.
- Bachelor’s degree in English Language, Literature, Linguistics, English Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year post-NYSC experience in an academic or professional office environment.
- Strong foundational knowledge of English grammar, academic writing conventions, and citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago).
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and general web applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- High level of personal integrity and ability to handle confidential student records discretely.
