About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Training Officer to join our team in Abuja. In this role, you will play a crucial part in combating hunger, malnutrition, and poverty by coordinating state-level training needs assessments and driving impactful agricultural capacity-building programs for youth and rural communities.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate state-level training needs assessments and adapt technical, business, and soft-skills curricula to local value chains.
- Plan training cohorts, mobilizing venues, facilitators, and participants in collaboration with the State Admin and Logistics Officer.
- Supervise the delivery of practical, hands-on training at Youth Agribusiness Parks and designated centers.
- Facilitate inclusive training for persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth using tailored methodologies.
- Support the implementation of the Start Them Early Program (STEP) in secondary schools.
- Track participant progress, maintain accurate data for M&E systems, and prepare comprehensive periodic training reports.
- Connect trained participants to mentorship, financial services, markets, and workforce placement opportunities.
- Ensure all activities strictly comply with IITA safeguarding, gender-inclusion, and health and safety standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in agricultural training, extension services, or youth capacity-building.
- Sound technical knowledge of priority value chains such as poultry, aquaculture, horticulture, rice, maize, or cassava.
- Proven expertise in adult learning principles and designing practical training for diverse demographics.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital learning tools.
- Willingness to travel frequently to rural training locations and Youth Agribusiness Parks within the state.
