About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Training Officer to join our team in Abuja. In this role, you will coordinate state-level training needs assessments, manage training cohorts, and oversee the delivery of practical, inclusive agricultural programs designed to enhance food security and reduce poverty across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate state-level training needs assessments and adapt technical, business, and soft-skills curricula to local value chains.
- Plan and schedule training cohorts, mobilizing venues, facilitators, and participants in collaboration with the State Admin and Logistics Officer.
- Identify, orient, and support qualified local facilitators and agribusiness mentors.
- Oversee training delivery at Youth Agribusiness Parks and other centers, ensuring hands-on, high-quality sessions.
- Coordinate specialized training for persons with disabilities, internally displaced youth, and implement the Start Them Early Program (STEP) in secondary schools.
- Track participant attendance, progress, and maintain accurate data for monitoring and evaluation systems.
- Prepare periodic training reports on participation, completion rates, and quality observations.
- Ensure compliance with IITA safeguarding, gender-inclusion, and health and safety standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in agricultural training, extension services, or youth capacity-building programs.
- Sound technical knowledge of priority value chains such as poultry, aquaculture, horticulture, rice, maize, or cassava.
- Demonstrated experience in adult-learning facilitation and inclusive training delivery.
- Strong organizational, reporting, and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the state to rural training locations.
