About the Role
African Foundries Limited (AFL) is a leading steel manufacturing company dedicated to supporting Nigeria's infrastructural growth by producing high-strength rebars. We are currently seeking a skilled and proactive Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Officer to optimize equipment reliability, implement robust maintenance strategies, and drive operational excellence across our heavy manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and sustain TPM practices, coordinating the eight pillars including Autonomous and Planned Maintenance.
- Develop, review, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for critical mechanical equipment.
- Monitor the reliability of rolling mill stands, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and material-handling equipment.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures using tools like 5 Whys, FMEA, and Fishbone Diagrams.
- Train and support production operators in executing autonomous maintenance, routine inspections, and minor adjustments.
- Track key performance indicators including OEE, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance compliance to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Enforce strict safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work, and hazard identification.
- Coordinate spare parts inventory management and contribute to annual maintenance budgeting and shutdown planning.
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, equipment reliability, or TPM within a steel plant or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Strong working knowledge of preventive maintenance systems, condition monitoring, and root cause problem-solving.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and continuous improvement methodologies like Lean or Kaizen.
