About the Role
Palm Spring Preparatory School, a leading private educational institution committed to delivering quality education to Nigerian learners, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Shadow Tutor. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a primary school pupil by providing tailored one-to-one support throughout the school day.
As a Shadow Tutor, you will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, parents, and the school's Learning Support team to implement strategies that enable pupils to access the curriculum meaningfully, participate in classroom activities, and develop essential independence and social skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide dedicated one-to-one support during lessons, activities, transitions, and school routines
- Reinforce classroom instruction and adapt learning materials to meet individual pupil needs
- Support development in reading, writing, numeracy, communication, and organisation
- Implement behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
- Foster independence, confidence, and appropriate classroom behaviour
- Observe and document pupil progress across academic, behavioural, social, and emotional areas
- Maintain accurate records of interventions, observations, and achievements
- Work closely with class teachers to ensure consistency with Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Encourage positive peer interaction and meaningful classroom inclusion
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and case conferences as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all safeguarding policies
- Bachelor's Degree, HND, or ND in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Child Development, or related field
- Minimum 1–2 years' experience working with children in educational or support settings
- Previous experience providing one-to-one support to children with special educational needs (highly desirable)
- Training in SEN, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, or behaviour support (desirable)
- Strong communication, patience, empathy, and emotional maturity
- Excellent observation, listening, and organisational skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
- Digital literacy and familiarity with educational technology
