About the Role

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is seeking dedicated and impartial individuals to serve as Presiding Officers (PO) for upcoming electoral processes. This temporary electoral role offers patriotic citizens a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the strengthening of Nigeria's democracy by managing polling units, maintaining order, and ensuring transparent voting procedures.

Key Responsibilities

As a Presiding Officer, you will be the chief electoral officer at your assigned polling unit, responsible for upholding electoral integrity and ensuring a seamless voting experience for citizens.

  • Manage all operations and activities at the assigned polling unit on election day.
  • Ensure the accreditation and voting processes strictly follow INEC guidelines and the Electoral Act.
  • Supervise assistant presiding officers and coordinate effectively with security personnel.
  • Accurately record, reconcile, and transmit election results using approved INEC technological devices.
  • Maintain a peaceful, orderly, and transparent environment for voters throughout the electoral process.
Qualifications

Candidates must meet specific criteria defined by INEC to ensure neutrality, capability, and trustworthiness during elections.

  • Serving NYSC Corps members.
  • Former NYSC members who completed service not earlier than 3 years before the date of the election (2024, 2025, 2026).
  • Students in the penultimate year, or year 2 and year 3 of study, in Federal and State tertiary institutions.
  • Permanent staff of Federal and State MDAs holding an OND or NCE on Grade Level 07-14.
  • Applicants must not be members of any political party or have expressed support for any candidate.
  • Must be a resident of the specific State selected for the application.
