About the Role
Starzs Investment Company Limited (SICL), a wholly indigenous marine logistics company established in 1984, is looking for a dedicated Operations Officer – Maritime to join our dynamic team in Nigeria. In this specialized role, you will play a crucial part in supporting vessel operations, maintaining maritime compliance, upholding safety standards, and ensuring overall fleet readiness in accordance with national and international regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Designated Person Ashore in driving vessel compliance and Health, Safety, and Environment standards.
- Monitor the Safety Management System, identify compliance gaps, and report the need for corrective actions.
- Oversee safety and pollution-prevention practices across the entire fleet.
- Assist with vessel and office inspections, audits, and comprehensive compliance reviews.
- Maintain and review daily vessel reports, escalate operational bottlenecks, and follow up on required interventions.
- Track fleet certificates, expiry dates, renewals, and outstanding regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with the Crewing Unit to ensure vessels remain adequately manned according to Safe Manning Certificates.
- Prepare accurate operational reports and documentation while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Compulsory possession of a relevant Deck Certificate of Competency, clearly detailing licence grade and issuing authority.
- Demonstrated, practical vessel and/or shipping operations experience is strictly mandatory.
- Preferred Bachelor Degree in Nautical Science.
- Strong working knowledge of maritime operations, vessel safety, and statutory compliance.
- Exceptional reporting, documentation, records-management, and organizational skills.
