About the Role
iRecharge Tech-Innovations is a leading internet-powered distribution platform enabling seamless access to virtual products and financial services across Nigeria. We are looking for a skilled Mid-Level Backend Engineer with strong Java expertise and hands-on Apache Fineract experience to help scale our financial infrastructure and core banking systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain core banking services covering customers, accounts, savings, transactions, limits, and double-entry ledger functionality.
- Develop and customise Apache Fineract using extension points, custom modules, and business events without unnecessarily forking the core platform.
- Build secure, scalable, and versioned REST APIs for digital channels and internal systems.
- Implement reliable transaction processing with strong controls around idempotency, concurrency, data consistency, and error handling.
- Integrate event-driven services using Apache Kafka to support real-time account and transaction events.
- Design and optimise database structures, queries, and migrations using PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- 3+ years of professional backend development experience, with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven hands-on experience with Apache Fineract or Mifos X core banking solutions.
- Deep understanding of double-entry accounting, financial ledgers, and transaction processing.
- Experience designing and developing secure, scalable REST APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments like AWS.
- Knowledge of Nigerian banking requirements, including NUBAN, BVN, tiered KYC, and CBN regulations is an advantage.
