About the Role
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a leading research-for-development organization dedicated to reducing hunger, malnutrition, and poverty in Africa. We are currently seeking a qualified and dedicated Nigerian National to fill the position of Medical Officer at our vibrant campus in Ibadan, Oyo State. In this role, you will deliver exceptional clinical care, manage emergencies, and promote preventative health initiatives for our staff and community.
Key Responsibilities- Manage common medical, surgical, OB-GYN, and pediatric conditions in a standard clinical setting.
- Provide prompt first aid for emergencies involving trauma, communicable diseases, and non-communicable diseases.
- Set up intravenous infusions and perform relevant point-of-care diagnostic testing as the need arises.
- Educate patients on hygiene, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, family planning, and disease prevention.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to develop educational content for staff health seminars and wellness programs.
- Facilitate occupational health activities in liaison with the occupational health team and unit head.
- Arrange external medical referrals and coordinate specialist clinics in conjunction with the Family Physician.
- Investigate clinical problems using medical laboratory and diagnostic equipment while ensuring diligent patient follow-up.
- Possession of an MBBS or MBChB degree from a recognized institution.
- Must hold a current annual medical practicing license issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- A minimum of five (5) years of active clinical practice experience in standard medical facilities, covering outpatient, inpatient, and pediatric care.
- Demonstrated computer literacy with strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive under pressure.
- Proven capacity to perform basic clinical procedures and point-of-care testing accurately.
