About the Role
Advancing Health for Humanitarian Support Initiative (AIDHealth Inc.) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Hausa NLP Data Scientist to drive innovative health solutions for vulnerable communities. In this role, you will apply cutting-edge natural language processing techniques to process and analyze regional linguistic data, directly contributing to our mission of strengthening healthcare access and equity across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities- Benchmark candidate listening platforms to evaluate the volume and relevance of captured Hausa content.
- Fine-tune African-language models, such as AfroXLMR and AfriBERTa classes, utilizing project-coded Hausa data.
- Automate coding categories upon achieving a macro-F1 score of 0.80 or higher against human coding standards.
- Monitor monthly model accuracy, identifying performance drifts and executing necessary retraining protocols.
- Execute comprehensive time-series analyses and performance comparisons across distinct study phases.
- Maintain and secure the encrypted project data warehouse and central code repository.
- Master of Science degree or higher in Computer Science, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Statistics, or Computational Linguistics.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven professional experience in applied machine learning or natural language processing.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in fine-tuning advanced transformer models.
- Prior experience working with low-resource languages, specifically African languages and ideally Hausa.
- Proficiency in Python (Hugging Face, pandas, scikit-learn) and practical working knowledge of SQL.
- Native fluency in Hausa paired with professional proficiency in English.
- Preferred qualifications include open-source contributions or publications in Hausa NLP (e.g., AfriSenti, NaijaSenti), BERTopic modeling, and time-series analysis in R or Python.
