About the Role
Stella Maris Schools in Abuja is a well-established private educational institution offering nursery, primary, and secondary schooling. Strategically located within the FCT, we are committed to high standards of teaching and learning, combining strong academics with character-building and extracurricular enrichment. We are currently seeking a dedicated Food and Nutrition Teacher to inspire Junior and Senior Secondary School students by developing their understanding of healthy eating, nutritional principles, food preparation, meal planning, and kitchen hygiene.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and deliver comprehensive Food and Nutrition lessons in accordance with the approved Nigerian secondary school curriculum.
- Teach essential topics including food groups, balanced diets, meal planning, and proper food preservation techniques.
- Conduct engaging practical cooking demonstrations and strictly supervise students during all hands-on food preparation activities.
- Instill proper kitchen hygiene, food safety protocols, and guidelines for the safe handling of kitchen equipment.
- Assess students' theoretical knowledge and practical performance through continuous evaluation, tests, and examinations.
- Prepare detailed lesson plans, grade assignments diligently, and maintain accurate academic records.
- Prepare senior secondary students successfully for WAEC, NECO, and other relevant external examinations.
- Possess a relevant degree or approved qualification in Home Economics, Food and Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, or a closely related field.
- Must hold a recognised professional teaching qualification such as a PGDE, B.Ed., or equivalent.
- Valid TRCN registration and licence as required by regulatory bodies and school policy.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience in a reputable secondary school.
- Strong knowledge of modern nutritional science, meal planning, and culinary safety standards.
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
- Digital teaching competence, including familiarity with Smartboards, will be a strong added advantage.
