About the Role

Iconic Open University, a fully licensed private open and distance learning institution by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja, Nigeria, invites applications from suitably qualified academics to serve as External Examiners for our undergraduate and postgraduate Islamic Studies programmes. We are deeply committed to maintaining rigorous academic quality, integrity, and excellence, and our external examiners play a pivotal role in this mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and moderate curriculum, course materials, and examination questions for Islamic Studies programmes to ensure academic rigor and relevance.
  • Assess student performance, evaluation scripts, and dissertations to guarantee fair, consistent, and high-standard grading.
  • Provide comprehensive feedback and annual reports to the university Senate regarding academic standards and student performance.
  • Ensure that assessment processes align with best practices in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strict independence and objectivity while evaluating programmes, avoiding any conflicts of interest.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Islamic Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Must currently hold an academic rank not below Senior Lecturer, with preference given to Readers and Professors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research, with a strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals over the last three years.
  • Proven track record of postgraduate supervision and prior experience as an external examiner in recognized tertiary institutions.
  • Familiarity with Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments, e-assessment, and virtual examination platforms.
  • Must be completely independent of Iconic Open University with no conflicts of interest.
