About the Role
Iconic Open University, a leading NUC-licensed private open and distance learning institution in Nigeria, invites suitably qualified academics from accredited universities to apply for the position of External Examiner for our English programmes. As we champion academic excellence and integrity in distance education, our external examiners play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance across all our academic offerings.
Key Responsibilities- Review and moderate undergraduate and postgraduate English examination questions and scripts to ensure academic rigor and fairness.
- Evaluate course materials, curricula, and student assessment methods for alignment with national and global academic benchmarks.
- Assess postgraduate dissertations and theses, providing comprehensive feedback and participating in oral defenses where required.
- Submit detailed annual reports to the University Senate on the standards of student performance, assessment processes, and curriculum relevance.
- Ensure that grading standards are comparable with other reputable tertiary institutions globally.
- Must hold a minimum of a Ph.D. degree in English Language, Literature, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
- Must currently hold an academic rank of not below Senior Lecturer; Readers and Professors are strongly preferred, particularly for postgraduate supervision.
- Demonstrated expertise and a strong track record of research publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals within the last three years.
- Prior experience as an external examiner in recognized tertiary institutions is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with Open and Distance Learning (ODL) environments, e-assessment, and virtual examination platforms.
- Must be entirely independent of Iconic Open University with no conflicts of interest, such as recent employment or close personal ties.
