University Press PLC, Nigeria's foremost educational and general publishing company with a rich heritage dating back to 1949, is seeking a talented and detail-oriented English Language Editor | Special Publications Editor to join our dynamic team in Ibadan. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining our high editorial standards, collaborating with authors, designers, and production teams to transform raw manuscripts into exceptional published works that inspire learners and readers nationwide.
Key Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive editorial work on manuscripts, including meticulous copyediting, substantive editing, and rigorous proofreading to ensure clarity, grammar, and style consistency.
- Develop detailed illustration briefs and book format guidelines for graphic artists and book designers to enhance visual appeal.
- Devise innovative editorial strategies and concepts for specific subject areas to expand our market reach.
- Collaborate closely with the Production Department to track manuscripts through all stages of production until the final product is successfully published.
- Brief sales representatives on new title features, USPs, and market positioning.
- Monitor and review the market performance of published books to inform future publishing strategies.
- Provide technical and literary insights to the Sales team to support promotional campaigns and product descriptions.
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in any Humanities discipline or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in any Social Sciences discipline, with a minimum of a Second Class Lower division.
- At least three (3) years of post-qualification professional editing experience within the publishing or media industry.
- Age not exceeding 35 years at the time of application.
- Must possess exceptional thoroughness and a meticulous eye for detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be proactive, versatile, and passionate about literature and education.
