About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja, a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in partnership with King's College Hospital, is seeking an experienced Cyclotron Medical Physicist. This vital role will lead the safe and efficient operation of our cyclotron facility, supporting cutting-edge PET imaging and nuclear medicine to deliver exceptional, accessible healthcare across Africa.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the reliable operation, calibration, and maintenance of the cyclotron system and associated equipment to meet clinical PET imaging demands.
- Develop and enforce rigorous quality assurance protocols and radiation safety standards in compliance with the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC).
- Manage the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials alongside comprehensive emergency response protocols.
- Drive research and innovation by optimizing radionuclide production, participating in clinical trials, and publishing findings.
- Train and mentor junior medical physicists, technologists, and local staff to build sustainable clinical expertise.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, including nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists, to ensure excellence in diagnostics.
- Master’s or PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related physical science field.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in cyclotron operations, PET physics, and radiochemistry.
- Recognized certifications in radiation safety or cyclotron operations are highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing regulatory compliance frameworks and quality assurance systems.
- Strong background in medical physics research, staff supervision, and multidisciplinary healthcare collaboration.
