About the Role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a premier 500-bed specialty hospital developed by Afreximbank in clinical partnership with King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are dedicated to providing world-class comprehensive diagnostics and advanced medical treatment across Africa. We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Consultant Intensivist to lead our multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and spearhead the advancement of critical care services with an unwavering commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead daily multidisciplinary ward rounds, formulating evidence-based management plans for critically ill patients requiring complex care.
- Perform advanced invasive procedures including central venous catheterization, arterial line insertion, endotracheal intubation, and percutaneous tracheostomy with strict adherence to infection control.
- Utilize point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), including focused cardiac and lung ultrasound, for rapid diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
- Manage advanced life support modalities such as mechanical ventilation and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
- Engage in transparent, empathetic communication with patients' families regarding prognoses, care plans, and goals of care.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and strict adherence to international patient safety protocols.
- Provide clinical supervision, bedside teaching, and mentorship to junior medical staff, residents, and fellows.
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution with a valid medical practice license.
- Board certification in a base specialty such as Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, or Pulmonary Medicine, alongside a sub-specialty certification in Critical Care Medicine.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship experience as a Consultant Intensivist.
- Demonstrated proficiency in advanced airway management, POCUS interpretation, and critical care technologies.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary team management skills with a commitment to clinical research and continuous medical education.
