About the Role

The British Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Finance Business Partner to support our Cultural Engagement Strategic Business Unit in Nigeria. In this high-visibility role, you will provide critical commercial insight, strategic financial advice, and robust financial appraisals to ensure our contracts portfolio remains sustainable, high-performing, and aligned with global priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted business partner, providing strategic commercial and financial insight to guide senior leadership and operational teams.
  • Lead the financial appraisal of new business opportunities, ensuring rigorous risk assessment, optimal pricing, and strong value for money.
  • Provide independent commercial challenge and recommendations to the global contracts Tripartite Approval Board (TAB).
  • Support the entire contract lifecycle, from pipeline review and bid tendering to post-award delivery and performance reporting.
  • Develop and embed consistent global pricing and costing models, incorporating specialist tax, treasury, and overhead recovery insights.
  • Identify material financial risks and collaborate with global finance teams to implement effective mitigation strategies.
Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level with a recognized professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of business partnering experience, with at least 3 years specifically supporting business development and tendering environments.
  • Advanced financial modelling, analysis, and Excel proficiency with a strong understanding of international cost and pricing tools.
  • Proven experience working in international, multi-cultural organizations, with desirable exposure to FCDO, EU, or major donor funding.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Must possess the legal right to work in Nigeria.
