About the Role
The Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka is a premier tertiary institution founded in 1967, dedicated to producing top-tier technical and vocational educators. We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to lead our library services as the College Librarian. Reporting directly to the Provost, this Principal Officer role is responsible for the overall administration, policy formulation, and strategic coordination of the central library and all departmental branches across the institution.
Key Responsibilities- Formulating overall library policies, maintaining personnel contacts, and liaising with academic departments regarding curriculum book requirements.
- Keeping abreast of global best practices concerning periodicals, journals, and digital publications relevant to the college's academic disciplines.
- Maintaining a robust database of reputable book vendors to ensure access to up-to-date physical and electronic resources.
- Preparing comprehensive annual library budgets and managing institutional resource allocation effectively.
- Ensuring the seamless day-to-day operation of the college library and fostering a supportive learning environment for students and staff.
- Possess a good Bachelor's Degree alongside a Master’s in Library Science (MLS) with at least 15 years of cognate experience, or a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science with at least 12 years of experience.
- Must have served as a Chief Librarian or Deputy College Librarian for a minimum of 5 years within a College of Education system.
- Must be registered with a recognized professional library body and demonstrate high proficiency in ICT.
- Evidence of strong scholarly contributions to knowledge through research and publications equivalent to a Chief Lecturer.
- Must not be above 59 years of age at the time of taking up the appointment.
- Single tenure of five (5) years from the date of appointment.
