About the Role
Turnkey Africa Ltd, the leading pan-African insurance and bancassurance technology provider, is looking for a passionate Backend Engineer to join our Evolve team. In this entry-level role, you will work alongside experienced engineers to build and maintain robust insurance management platforms used by industry leaders. You will receive hands-on mentorship, support with technical decisions, and a clear pathway for professional growth within a collaborative pan-African tech environment.
Key Responsibilities- Build assigned features and bug fixes in Java and Spring Boot to agreed design standards and acceptance criteria.
- Develop and update REST APIs, SQL queries, and maintain accurate OpenAPI documentation.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests, collaborating closely with QA engineers to verify fixes.
- Investigate issues using approved tools, logs, and test environments while escalating high-risk problems promptly.
- Apply secure coding practices and support release preparation and deployment checks under guidance.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or equivalent practical training supported by relevant projects.
- Foundational Java skills and familiarity with Spring Boot through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
- Basic knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, relational databases, SQL, and version control with Git.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a collaborative working style.
- Exposure to Hibernate, JPA, TypeScript, or frontend frameworks like Angular is an added advantage.
