About the Role
INTERSOS is an independent humanitarian organization dedicated to assisting people affected by crises, armed conflicts, and disasters. We are currently looking for a dedicated Agricultural Engineer to join our livelihood team in Maiduguri and Jere, Borno State. Under the supervision of the Livelihood Project Manager, you will serve as the technical lead for engineering works, ensuring sustainable recovery and community resilience.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out comprehensive condition and hydraulic assessments of agricultural facilities, including irrigation systems, fish ponds, greenhouses, and feed mills.
- Design and specify climate-smart infrastructure such as solar-powered pumping systems, drainage networks, and agro-processing equipment.
- Prepare accurate bills of quantities (BoQs), technical specifications, and tender documentation while supporting procurement processes.
- Supervise contractors and installers daily, enforcing strict health, safety, and environmental standards on site.
- Lead testing, commissioning, and formal handover of infrastructure to government counterparts and community facility committees.
- Develop standard operating procedures and train community operators in asset maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering or Agricultural and Bio-resources Engineering (Master's degree is a strong advantage).
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in agricultural engineering, rural infrastructure design, and contractor supervision.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, alongside strong technical writing and hydraulic calculation skills.
- Familiarity with humanitarian operations, solar-powered irrigation, and community-based asset management in North-East Nigeria.
- Fluency in English and good spoken Hausa are essential for effective community engagement.
