About the Role

Wema Bank Plc is seeking a seasoned banking professional to lead the establishment and growth of its Mining and Solid Minerals Finance desk. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the Bank's strategic entry into a high-potential sector, driving portfolio diversification while positioning Wema Bank as the preferred financial partner for mining companies, mineral processors, equipment suppliers, exporters, commodity traders, logistics providers and investors across Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Bank's subject-matter expert, providing advisory support and recommendations on all transactions, proposals and policies relating to the mining and solid minerals sector.
  • Drive business development efforts across all Strategic Business Units, supporting the prospecting, marketing, conversion and management of banking relationships across the mining value chain.
  • Lead the design and development of innovative products and service propositions tailored to retail, commercial, corporate, institutional and public sector clients in the mining and solid minerals space.
  • Guide unit team leads and desk officers in credit structuring, appraisal, and post-disbursement monitoring across the full credit life-cycle of mining-related transactions.
  • Ensure portfolio health and asset quality by collaborating closely with Loan Monitoring, Review, Workout and Recovery teams to prevent and remediate delinquency.
  • Develop strategic alliances and partnerships with local and international development institutions to access concessionary funding, investment and technical support for the Bank's mining finance proposition.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, Accounting, Geology, Mining Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related disciplines.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Economics, or related field is an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as CIBN, CFA, FRM, ACCA, ICAN, or relevant Mining, Project Finance, or Risk Management certifications are advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years' relevant banking and financial services experience.
  • At least 5 years' experience in Corporate Banking, Project Finance, Structured Finance, Commodity Finance, Mining Finance, Energy Finance, Infrastructure Finance, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience originating, structuring, and managing large-value transactions.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, mineral value chains, commodity markets, and investment dynamics.
  • Proven track record in business development, relationship management, and portfolio growth.
