About the Role
Maersk, a global leader in shipping, logistics, and integrated supply chain solutions, is seeking a skilled Tax Operations Supervisor to lead corporate tax compliance, reporting, and tax authority engagement across the Africa region. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned tax professional ready to manage complex tax risks, audits, and controversies within a dynamic, multi-jurisdictional environment.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with regional and global stakeholders to strengthen audit readiness, ensure compliance excellence, and support strategic tax initiatives across multiple African markets.
Key Responsibilities- Manage corporate tax compliance across Africa, including corporate income tax, withholding taxes, freight taxes, and transfer pricing returns.
- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely preparation, review, and submission of tax returns and statutory filings.
- Deliver global and regional tax reporting requirements, including CbCR and Pillar Two, in line with local disclosure expectations.
- Lead and support engagement with tax authorities, including audits, investigations, enquiries, and information requests.
- Manage end-to-end tax controversies, including strategy development, technical submissions, reconciliations, and negotiation of audit outcomes.
- Maintain a proactive audit readiness framework with contemporaneous documentation and defensible technical position papers.
- Oversee tax accounting and provisioning, including current tax, deferred tax, and uncertain tax positions.
- Enhance standardized tax processes, controls, and governance frameworks to withstand tax authority scrutiny.
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and business teams to close data gaps and strengthen internal controls.
- Leverage technology and data solutions to improve audit readiness and technical analysis.
- Identify and manage tax risks arising from operations, transactions, and evolving regulations across the region.
- Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely resolution of tax-related findings.
- Monitor tax law and regulatory developments, assessing their impact on business operations and audit exposure.
- Provide senior tax advisory input on structuring transactions sustainably under tax authority scrutiny.
- Act as a trusted senior contributor, bringing judgement and authority-facing credibility to regional tax matters.
- Professional tax and/or accounting qualification (Chartered Accountant, CPA, or ACCA).
- Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in tax operations or compliance.
- Proven track record in tax compliance, filings, and controversy support, including leading responses to tax audits and disputes.
- Strong technical knowledge with the ability to develop and defend robust tax positions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently across multiple jurisdictions, managing competing deadlines and authority interactions.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of French is an added advantage.
