About the Role
Leadway Assurance Company Limited, one of Nigeria's most trusted and long-standing insurance providers, is seeking a skilled Recovery Officer and Claims Assessor to join its Technical and Operations division. This role is central to protecting company profitability by driving optimal recovery of value from claims through effective salvage and subrogation management, while ensuring the accurate and timely assessment of General Business claims in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Key Responsibilities- Identify and promptly follow up on salvage and recovery opportunities arising from claims
- Retrieve, value, and dispose of salvage items in a timely manner to maximize recovery value
- Pursue subrogation and third-party recovery on claims already paid
- Engage regularly with salvage buyers, insured parties, and brokers on salvage retrieval
- Collate and report monthly data on claims with salvage and recovery outcomes
- Acknowledge, register, and communicate claim references to clients promptly
- Review Engineer's, Loss Adjuster's, and Investigator's reports for accuracy
- Adjust claims and convey settlement offers to policyholders
- Analyze the likelihood of recovery on assessed claims
- Negotiate with salvage buyers and third-party insurers to secure optimal recovery outcomes
- Identify suspicious or fraudulent claims requiring further investigation
- Communicate feedback on recovery and claims findings to the underwriting team
- Resolve customer inquiries and claims complaints efficiently and professionally
- Ensure strict adherence to turnaround time (TAT) on technical service delivery
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from a recognized university
- Professional qualification in CIIN (or actively pursuing it)
- Minimum of 2 years' work experience in an Insurance Technical division, with at least 1 year in a recovery (salvage & subrogation) or claims handling function
- Good understanding of salvage and subrogation recovery processes, and General Business claims handling
- Working knowledge of salvage valuation, disposal, and third-party recovery/subrogation principles
- Proficiency in MS Office tools and relevant AI tools
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and summarize claims and recovery reports
- Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills
- Strong negotiation skills for salvage disposal and subrogation recovery
- Calm, patient, and professional demeanor when dealing with difficult brokers, clients, or salvage buyers
