About the Role
HBM Nigeria Plc (Formerly Lafarge), a leading building solutions company, is seeking a diligent and experienced Mechanical Operator, CPP to join our dynamic power operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining engines and auxiliary systems to guarantee smooth and reliable plant performance while adhering to top-tier safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities- Start, run, and stop engines while monitoring performance parameters.
- Maintain accurate hourly records of engine operations and report deviations promptly to section engineers.
- Carry out routine engine fitting jobs, mechanical maintenance, and lubrication tasks.
- Conduct risk assessments before switching operations, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for generator failures and implement corrective action plans.
- Perform first-level inspections, identify equipment abnormalities, and maintain workshop housekeeping.
- Handle emergency situations and equipment isolation following PTW, LOTO, and power plant safety procedures.
- Coach and train junior operators on safe and efficient engine operations.
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Grade 3 Trade Test in a relevant mechanical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in power plant or heavy industrial operations.
- Hands-on experience operating steam turbines, boilers, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in plant start-up, shutdown, routine monitoring, and fault reporting.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols, including PTW, LOTO, and hazard identification.
