About the Role
Acmecare Montessori Academy, a reputable private co-educational day school in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is seeking a passionate and experienced Igbo Language Teacher to join its academic team. This role is ideal for an educator who is dedicated to preserving and promoting indigenous language education while inspiring young learners to appreciate their cultural heritage.
As an Igbo Language Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that build pupils' proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Igbo. You will play a key role in fostering a love for the language and culture among students at the early childhood and basic primary levels, using creative and age-appropriate teaching methods.
The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant teaching qualifications, and a genuine passion for indigenous language instruction. You will work closely with other teachers and the school administration to ensure that pupils meet curriculum standards and develop strong communication skills in Igbo.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured Igbo language lessons in line with the school's curriculum
- Develop engaging teaching materials and activities to improve pupils' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Igbo
- Assess and monitor pupils' progress through tests, assignments, and continuous evaluation
- Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally enriching classroom environment
- Maintain accurate records of pupils' academic performance and attendance
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and school management to support overall academic goals
- Participate in school events, cultural activities, and parent-teacher meetings
- Provide extra support to pupils who require additional help in mastering the language
- Uphold the school's values, code of conduct, and educational standards at all times
- M.Sc, B.Ed, or B.Sc with PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education)
- 3–5 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in a primary or basic education setting
- Fluency in the Igbo language with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Sound knowledge of Igbo culture, literature, and language pedagogy
- Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for teaching young children
